Hospital Power Supply Upgrades and Demand Side Management
Recently Navari attended the Institute of Health Engineers Association conference in Newcastle. It provided an insight into hospital engineering and the problems faced by hospitals in NSW/ACT. It became clear that as hospitals expand and upgrade with the addition of new wings and new equipment/technology the power capacity of existing diesel generators, switchboards and UPS needs focus. A good asset management program will be able to provide hospital engineers and facility managers with current equipment capacity and provide an engineering solution to areas that need up sizing. This will also future proof and prepare the facility for future upgrades keeping in mind budgets. Demand side management can be applied to control reduce electricity consumption and by reducing consumption the hospital can reduce the scale of up sizing if required. There are new technologies in the market that allow monitoring of mechanical and electrical assets to ensure that the demand side management program is working and areas for improvement.
